New Photonics Laboratory at Deeside College

The first apprentices of the ‘Technicians in Optics project’ (TOP) will benefit from the proposed setting up of a new Photonics Laboratory within Deeside College. The Head of Engineering Nick Tyson has initiated this lab for the use of the students, apprentices and the Schools who regularly visit Deeside College. Following discussions between the Photonics Academy at OpTIC, and Deeside staff from the Engineering Department and A-Level Science Department, it has been decided to establish and equip a state of the art Photonics Laboratory. The new Laboratory will also be available to the Engineering students as well as the A-Level Science students, who will make use of the Laboratory facilities through their extra-curricular Science Society which forms part of their Welsh Baccalaureate Course. It is also proposed to use this new Deeside College Photonics Laboratory for developing Flintshire Teacher Development Courses in Photonics.
