A Knowledge Transfer Partnership Promotes Photonics in Schools

A Knowledge Transfer Partnership Promotes Photonics in Schools

The future of the photonics industry is highly dependent on a steady flow of high quality trainees to fill key posts as the sector continues to expand. To help ensure that supply,

OpTIC and Deeside College have secured a highly innovative Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) programme to raise awareness among today’s school children and to encourage them to develop an interest in the subject.

The KTP is a two year project which is working on the development of learning materials for schools and other educational establishments in Wales, the United Kingdom, Europe and America. The aim of the work is to inspire students and encourage them to pursue a career in the Photonics industry. The learning material will be developed by KTP Associate Jane Jepson of Deeside College, who will be working with the Photonics Academy at OpTIC for the duration of the project.

The Partnership is funded by the Technology Strategy Board along with the 17 other government funding organisations involved in the scheme.  KTP aims to help businesses to improve their competitive edge and boost their productivity through the better use of the knowledge, technology and skills that reside within the UK Knowledge Base.  The KTP provides resources and expertise to thriving organizations that wish to innovate, expand or improve their performance.
